Liza McKelvey represents national and regional employers in a broad spectrum of employment matters, including defending companies against various employee claims, providing proactive advice and counseling on a wide range of employment issues, and training employers on best practices and promoting litigation avoidance.
On the litigation side, Liza has defended her clients against claims of race, sex, age, disability, national origin and religious discrimination, sexual harassment, constructive discharge, breach of employment contract, retaliation, violation of public policy and related issues. She routinely advises clients on complex issues ranging from leave management and reasonable accommodation of disabilities, to non-competition and non-solicitation obligations, to wage and hour compliance. Liza has assisted clients in navigating the employment issues that arise in the context of mergers and acquisitions, and she regularly works with clients to draft and review employment and executive agreements as well as employee handbooks and employment policies.
Liza’s background provides her a unique perspective on the challenges facing her clients. In addition to practicing with both national and regional law firms, prior to joining Ducker, Montgomery, Liza spent a number of years as in-house counsel, most recently as General Counsel and Vice President of Compliance and Reimbursement at Cochlear Americas, a subsidiary of Sydney, Australia-based Cochlear Ltd. Having previously been a “client” herself, Liza recognizes the value of having outside counsel who understand business dynamics, and who can partner with clients to provide creative and practical solutions to meet their specific business goals and objectives.
